    The Living Map of Marma

What if marma isn’t just a set of points?

In classical Ayurveda, marmāṇi are places where structure, consciousness, and prāṇa converge — a living map the mind uses to organize movement, safety, and the transfer of force. This pre-conference practicum dives into how posture and breath reveal prāṇic adaptation, blending Ayurveda, Yoga, and movement science to restore your body’s natural flow. Participants learn to read posture, breath, and rib-cage structure as expressions of prāṇic adaptation — and how to restore the conditions that allow prāṇa to flow as intended.  Perfect for students and practitioners seeking practical root-cause healing.

Ayurveda - A Source of Innovations in Biomedicine

Ayurveda - A Source of Innovations in Biomedicine- As biomedicine moves toward personalized, predictive, and systems-based care, Ayurveda

offers a mature framework for biomedical innovation. This talk tries to understand Ayurveda

through the lens of modern science, not as an alternative system but as a structured body of

knowledge relevant to health promotion, disease prevention, personalized therapeutics, and

well-being. The scientific value of traditional knowledge is increasingly visible in landmark

discoveries at the highest levels of modern science. Nobel-recognized advances such as

artemisinin from traditional pharmacopeias, autophagy as a core cellular survival mechanism

linked to therapeutic fasting, and circadian biology validating time-based daily regimens

show how long-standing clinical observations often precede molecular explanation. These

convergences reflect a broader shift from genomic reductionism toward integrative meta-

science, a transition explored in Genome to Om. Against this backdrop, the presentation

outlines our work in Systems Ayurveda and Ayurgenomics, where Prakriti-based phenotypic

stratification aligns with distinct genomic and molecular signatures. This provides a practical

pathway toward P4 medicine. Reverse Pharmacology is discussed as a translational strategy

that moves from bedside observations to molecular validation, shortening conventional

discovery pathways. Network Pharmacology further explains how poly-herbal formulations

act as multi-target, systems-level interventions rather than single-molecule therapies. The talk

also highlights ongoing work on Ayurvedic therapeutic adjuvants aimed at improving host

immunity and reducing treatment-related toxicities, including those associated with

chemotherapy. Taken together, these examples position Ayurveda as a contributor to an

integrative biomedical model where traditional clinical logic and modern science work

together to address chronic, metabolic, and complex diseases.

The Evolution of Ama: From Classical Ayurveda to Contemporary Immunology

The Ayurvedic concept of Ama—first described in the Susruta Samhita—has transformed through time, from a simple marker of indigestion to a complex theory explaining systemic toxicity, inflammation, and immune dysfunction. This presentation traces the fascinating evolution of the fundamental concept of Ama across classical texts and traditional interpretations, revealing how this ancient idea resonates with today’s understanding of autoimmunity, chronic inflammation, and metabolic disorders. By revisiting the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda through a modern scientific lens, we uncover how the ancient science anticipated many of the immunological paradigms of our time.

Pre-Diabetes as Purvarupa: Reclaiming the Critical Window for Prevention

Prediabetes is often described as a silent condition—yet from an Ayurvedic perspective, it represents a classic presentation of pūrvarūpa: the stage of subtle but progressing imbalance that precedes overt disease. In this lecture, we will explore how each of the doṣas uniquely contributes to its root causes and downstream effects—challenging the common assumption that this is solely a Kapha disorder. Far from being merely a precursor to type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance is now recognized as a foundational driver of cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and other chronic diseases. By integrating classical Ayurvedic pathogenesis with modern assessment tools, participants will learn how to identify metabolic dysfunction during its most reversible stage. The session concludes with targeted, Ayurvedically grounded strategies that restore metabolic resilience, reframing prediabetes not as an inevitable progression to chronic disease, but as a powerful and actionable window for prevention.

    Ayurveda and Menopause

Menopause is marked by the cessation of the menstrual cycle; however this transitional

phase does not only impact the reproductive system, but the whole body. In Āyurveda

rajonivṛtti or menopause is not considered a disease but a natural progression into the

next phase of life. Just as puberty starts the shift into adulthood where the body takes

years to complete maturity, similarly during perimenopause the body undergoes almost

a second puberty to facilitate the end of the menstrual cycle. Both stages induce

changes in all systems of the body, including systemic symptoms. Perimenopause starts

during the end phases of the pitta stage of life and is completed at the beginning of the

vāta phase of life. We will explore the progressive shift into menopause and how

Āyurveda can support ease in this process.

The Bones as the Portal to Ojas: Tantric Anatomy, Essence & The Marrow of Embodiment

In the Tantric tradition, the bones are far more than structural architecture - they are a mystical gateway into the deepest strata of our being. Ancient yogic and Tantric lineages understood that within the marrow of the bones resides our essence. This was seen as the densest expression of life-force (ojas), ancestral memory, and soul-contract information. When we learn to meditate on the bones, we enter a state of profound grounding, clarity, and spiritual descent into the body.

In this session, Katie Silcox, M.A. — New York Times best-selling author and founder of The Shakti School — guides participants into the subtle anatomy of bone consciousness.

    Participants will discover how:

The skeletal system acts as the energetic anchor of the subtle body

Bone marrow is viewed in Ayurveda as the sacred reservoir of Ojas (vitality, immunity, and spiritual luminosity)

Ancient Tantric texts prescribe bone meditation as a path to fearlessness, deep presence, and ego dissolution

Working with the bones supports nervous system down-regulation, trauma resolution, and a felt sense of belonging in the body

The bones store ancestral and karmic patterns (and how conscious awareness can unlock this “frozen” intelligence)

Specific breath, visualization, and somatic practices can awaken marrow intelligence and reconnect practitioners to their inner essence

This presentation invites participants into a transformative experience of embodiment, where the bones become a stabilizing, mystical doorway into spiritual power, grounded intuition, and the timeless resilience stored in the very center of the self.

Rebuilding the Burnt Terrain: Ayurvedic Insights On Management of Chemotherapy  and Radiation Related Side Effects

Dr Aditi's talk explores how life-saving cancer therapies, while essential, leave behind a biologically stressed and vulnerable internal terrain marked by inflammation, dryness, metabolic instability, tissue depletion, and reduced recovery capacity. Drawing from classical Ayurvedic principles and contemporary oncology parallels, this talk frames chemotherapy and radiation as powerful external stressors that disrupt dosha balance, dhatu integrity, agni, and ojas, creating what can be understood as a “burnt terrain state.” The session outlines clinically safe, stage-appropriate Ayurvedic strategies focused on protection, stabilization, and gentle rebuilding applied during and after conventional treatment. By integrating evidence-informed rasayana support, timing-appropriate Panchakarma, and individualized care principles, this approach aims to soften treatment toxicity, preserve tissue resilience, and support recovery while working alongside modern oncology, not against it.

An Integrated Approach to Healing Trauma through Ayurveda

Trauma manifests through disruptions in neurobiology, physiology, and emotional regulation. Ayurveda, provides a comprehensive model that addresses these layers by considering the interconnectedness of body (sharira), mind (manas), and spirit (atma).

From an Ayurvedic lens, trauma may aggravate the doshas, particularly vata, destabilizing the nervous system and mental constitution (manas prakriti). Intervention involves restoring Sattva (clarity and balance) while calming excess rajas (agitation) and Tamas (Inertia).

When integrated with trauma-informed psychotherapy, Ayurvedic approaches provide a complementary pathway for cultivating safety, restoring balance, and enhancing long-term resilience through Somatic regulation, Cognitive Emotional stabilization, Meaning making and Resilience.

Integrative Ayurvedic Approaches to Managing Psychiatric Conditions

Integrative Ayurvedic Approaches to Managing Psychiatric Conditions - Despite high prevalence worldwide, major depression is often under-treated in primary care settings. Depression subtyping based on principles of Ayurveda may enable more treatment personalization and improve clinical outcomes. This session opens with an introduction to the theoretical framework of Ayurveda, in which three constitutional humors/doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) govern all mind-body functioning. Specific psycho-physiological characteristics are associated with imbalance in a given dosha, allowing the examining clinician to subtype any psychiatric illness—including depression—as being predominantly Vata, Pitta, or Kapha in nature. We will examine emerging research suggesting that therapeutic interventions matched to Ayurvedic depression subtype may lead to enhanced clinical results. We outline efforts by our research team at the University of California, San Francisco, to create and validate an Ayurvedic Depression Subtyping Measure (ADSM) amenable to administration in primary care settings.
